Over a period of 20 years, the sector of nutraceuticals
and functional foods has emerged at the convergence of the
pharmaceutical and food industries (Childs et al. 2000). The
rising rates of obesity and diabetes, rising eye-health concerns,
increase in cardiovascular disease incidence, has transformed the
consumption patterns in developing markets. With a rising shift
from- treatment to preventive medicine, clinicians and patients
are inspired to think differently about health and disease, thereby
creating an impetus for nutraceutical innovations.
