Ahuja, Naman P.

Temple Studies: Changing Perspectives - Vol.73(2&3), Dec-Mar - Mubami Marg Publications 2021-22 - 12-15p.

Explaining the curatorial process in the introduction to this issue, Dr Naman P. Ahuja enumerates the questions and contexts he kept in mind while revisiting the essays on the Indian temple in Marg’s archive. Acknowledging the architectural variety of the Indian temple over the centuries, he writes that the aim here was to look instead at who built temples and why. What made temples valid spaces for worship when many Hindus do not believe in image worship? The selection examines the nature of the activities temples fostered and how they, in turn, became the focus of urban centres.
