Flexural behaviour of concrete composite slabs with different configurations of truss type shear connectors - Vol.103(3), Sep - USA Springer 2022 - 767-783p.

Concrete composite half-slab system consisting of bottom precast segment and in situ top segment, possesses tremendous advantages such as fast track construction, avoiding formwork usage, and ease of construction. Truss type shear connectors are most commonly used for establishing shear connection between the slab segments. The understanding of shear resistance mobilized by different forms of truss type shear connector systems and their comparative performance evaluation is very scarce. Hence, in the present study, comparative performance of composite slabs with different configurations of truss type shear connectors, viz. unitary truss, dual truss, and lattice truss type, is evaluated under four-point bending. The performance of the composite slabs is also compared with that of the full slab (i.e. control specimen). It is observed that the composite slab with unitary truss type shear connector possesses better load carrying capacity, rotation, energy dissipation, ductility when compared to composite slab with dual truss and lattice type shear connectors. Further, to simulate the behaviour of composite slabs, numerical models are developed and the results of numerical models corroborated well with the experimental results. From the numerical investigations, it is found that the composite slab with lattice shear connectors showed partial composite action in the absence of interface cohesion.
