Strychnos potatorum is commonly known as clearing nut or nirmali because of its ability to purify water instantly. The main chemical constituents of the nirmali plant include mannogaactan, diabolin acetyl diabolin, brucine, novacaine, stigmasterol, campesterol, stiosterol, and oleanolic acid. This review contains the traditional uses, phytochemical constituents and diffrerent reported pharmacological activities like analgesic, antibacterial, antianaphylactic, antiarthritic, antibacterial, anticancer, etc.
