Experimental investigation of tensile strength, fracture energy, and effective length of fracture progress zone of notched banana fiber reinforced composite - Vol.104(6), Dec - USA Springer 2023 - 1163-1171p.
Global sustainable goals are demanding the scientific community to explore natural fibers over synthetic fibers for manufacturing composite material. The nominal tensile strength , and fracture properties of composite materials cannot be measured assuredly from small specimens due to their quasibrittleness. The aim of this study is to develop Banana Fiber Reinforced Composites (BFRC) and to experimentally measure the nominal tensile strength , fracture energy (Gf), and effective length of fracture process zone (Cf) for different dimensions. To this end, single-edge-notched tension (SENT) specimens were prepared for three different parameters, i.e., fiber orientation, thickness, and size (width). The results present the size effect (width) on the strength of notched BFRC specimens for all parameters. The calculated fracture energy (Gf) and effect length of the fracture process zone (Cf) provides a reference to estimate the failure behavior of BFRC Material.
