Diagonally placed MIMO loaded with square CRR for multiband applications - Vol.104(4), Aug - USA Springer 2023 - 859-867p.

This paper proposes a novel reconfigurable 4 element square ring resonator-based Multiple Input Multiple Output antenna for S, C and X band applications. The 4 elements are designed and the prototype is fabricated on a solo FR-4 substrate with low profile having dimensions of 80 × 80 × 1.6 mm3. The proposed frequency reconfigurable MIMO antenna is designed to attain enhanced mutual coupling lower than − 25 dB and reflection co-efficient > − 20 dB to tune over frequency bands of between 2.3–2.5 GHz, 5.1–5.5 GHz and 6–6.5 GHz, 7.8–8.5 GHz bands by placing the elements diagonally. Diversity parameters for the performance of the MIMO antenna are adequately satisfactory with envelope correlation co-efficient not exceeding 0.05 and diversity gain of nearly 10 in all the resonating frequencies. The other diversity parameters including group delay and total active reflection co-efficient have also been verified experimentally in the operating bands. A maximum peak gain of 11.7 dB and efficiency of 85% is achieved which makes the proposed design a suitable prospect for S, C and X band applications.
