Urban electrical infrastructure - Vol.51(8), Aug - Mumbai Chary Publications 2011 - 96-103p.

The transmission plays a very important role in bringing power from distant generator locations to the load centers. EHV substations form the heart of the transmission infrastructure occupy a position of utmost importance meeting the overall power requirements.
Area requirement of a typical 220 kV AIS sub-station comprising of bays, power transformers, fire fighting, control room, auxiliaries etc is 30,000 to 40,000 sqm in one piece and is an almost impossible option in urban areas.
