Summary, etc. Nowadays, supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), mostly by-products of various industries are used as a cement replacement material in the development of different types of concrete. Fly ash is the predominantly used SCM in the cement/concrete industry owing to its abundant availability. Unburnt carbon in fly ash is considered as the undesired element preventing the use of high carbon content fly ash in cement concrete. In this study, ash containing high carbon content is attempted in developing electrically conductive cement mortar. Electrically conductive cement mortar/concrete has many applications such as electromagnetic interference shielding, anti static flooring, deicing roads, cathodic protection etc. Ash derived from various industries and from the different source points in the same plant having varied unburnt carbon content are used in this study. The presence of iron oxide and unburnt carbon content in the ash are observed as main parameters for improving the electrical conductivity of cement mortar. Further, the conductivity path influenced by the different types of aggregates in mortar are studied. It is found that though certain types of ashes are not suitable for the development of conventional mortar/concrete owing to high carbon and iron oxide content, those ash varieties can be used for the development of special concretes like electrically conductive mortar/concrete. Results showed that the copper slag having high Fe2O3 content and carbon content improved the conductivity of mortar.
