Summary, etc. The built environment in commercial spaces is the crucial location where energy gets consumed. The energy may be consumed in air conditioning or heating, lighting, running equipment such as computers or other worksite energy requirements. Therefore, the factors that leverage energy consumption in the built environment should be known and prioritized to control energy utilization. This research provides a list of factors that can control energy saving in commercial spaces' built environments. The list of factors was collected through a survey of residents in commercial buildings from four different metropolitan cities in south India. This research demonstrates inhabitants' real-time experience in a commercial space; it depicts the ground zero reality from actual real-life examples. The multi-criteria Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory methodology is used to analyse interactions among the factors. The results show that floor area and building orientation are classified in the cause group, and equipment and wall/roof types in the effect group are the primary factors responsible for energy consumption in commercial buildings. Managerial applications of the research results are also provided.
