| Summary, etc. | This textbook discusses the development of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines and the advantages of these machines over the conventional machine tools. Hardware requirements of NC and CNC machines, constructional details of CNC machines, manual part programming and computer assisted part programming are discussed in the text. A number of examples of part-programming for machining different jobs have been included to enable the students and shop-floor engineers to understand the concepts. Special tooling requirements of CNC machines and maintenance aspects have also been discussed. A new chapter on CNC machines and automation has been added which the students and shop-floor engineers will find it interesting and useful. Test items (Multiple-Choice Questions) have also been included for evaluating the learning outcomes of the students and to help the faculty in setting up the question papers of high quality and standard. We hope that the book will be useful for the students of degree and diploma programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Machine Tool Technology and Automobile Engineering.
