Summary, etc. This paper discusses systematic and scientific methods of energy, and is a case study of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bijwasan, New Delhi. The energy audit indicated scope areas for conservation of energy. Energy audit study at the plant resulted in identification of saving of Rs. 145,828.33 per year in the annual energy bill of the plant. The total approximate investment is Rs. 19,500 which has a payback period of around 1.31 years. The proposed saving accounts for 20% of the total annual energy consumption of the plant. Energy audit is defined as “The judicious and effective use of energy to maximize profits (minimize costs) and enhance competitive positions.” The energy audit is an organized approach to identify energy waste in a facility, determine how this waste can be eliminated at a reasonable cost with a suitable time frame. It not only serves to identify opportunities for energy conservation, but it is also a crucial first step in establishing an energy management programme. The audit will produce the data on which such a programme is based. The general aim of energy audit is to identify technical and administrative measures that are feasible for saving energy throughout the audit area.
