Summary, etc. |
This paper aims to analyze the capacity of underground excavation to bear subgrade construction. A modelling approach using the FLAC3D software was proposed to evaluate the capability of the underground excavation beneath the Changli highway in Jiangxi, China. The model was supplemented by the implementation of the regional stress, the Hoek–Brown yield criterion, and the associated flow rule. Several beneficial consequences obtained from the evaluation suggest that the decision made on the prevention and treatment of karst collapse. An empirical equation was summarized via regression analysis to explicitly depict the relationship between the tectonic load and the capability of underground excavation. The material properties of limestone and the geometric conditions of underground excavation were found to significantly affect the cave collapse process. The bearing capacity of type II limestone is prominent, followed by type III limestone, while the bearing capacity of type IV limestone is not so satisfied. Caves with small size and thick roof seem to have more potential to bear subgrade construction. |
