Summary, etc. The increasing proportion of world’s population living in urban areas has been driven by the growing concentration of new investments and employment opportunities. In general, nations with the most rapid and sustained economic growth have the highest level of urbanization. The author further argues that green growth strategies are needed to promote sustainable growth and to break the pattern of environmental degradation and natural resource depletion. He also argues that emission reductions can be achieved with minimal cost to GDP. It is the only way to reconcile rapid growth required to bring developing countries to the level of prosperity to which they aspire with the needs of more than 1 billion people remaining unmet, who still continue to live in poverty and the imperative of a better managed environment. Indeed, green growth is a vital tool for achieving sustainable development.
