Publisher: Noida STM Journals 2019Edition: Vol.9(1), Jan-Apr.Description: 39-45p.Subject(s): Mechanical EngineeringOnline resources: Click here In: Recent trends in mechanical engineering & technology (TMET)Summary: Gearbox is widely used in industrial and military applications. It is subjected to high service load and harsh operating conditions or inevitable fatigue, due to which faults may develop in gears. Fault diagnosis plays an important role in condition monitoring to enhance the machine time. Vibration-based condition monitoring can be applied in gear systems to detect the origination and expansion of fault before the occurrence of failure. Eventually, occurrence of failure causes degradation of the gearing system, which will affect the working of the whole machine assembly. Timely detection of defects facilitates scheduled shutdown to prevent any catastrophic failure which ensures safer operation and higher cost reduction. In view of this, the present investigation focuses on the previous development of fault diagnosis system of gearboxes applying the concepts of vibration signatures. State-of-art and challenges are reviewed and discussed.
