Unlike inverter, multilevel inverter (MLI) is an inverter which works on high power or voltage. It provides a staircase waveform with lower total harmonic distortion. Working on high-power, high-voltage application, they have become more popular. There are some drawbacks also in MLI that it requires a large number of power devices and composite controllability. This paper presents a noble MLI topology using two types of switches, bidirectional and unidirectional. Bidirectional switch is used to reduce reverse voltage across the switch as used in 11-level MLI.
