ITPI journalSummary: This paper provides a comprehensive view of Town Planning Schemes (TPS) as they are implemented globally, in India and in the state of Gujarat. It is claimed that the Town Planning Schemes (TPS) as a tool for city development has been very successful, particularly in Ahmedabad where 95 per cent of Ahmedabad urban area is developed through town planning Schemes and the city has fairly well developed infrastructure throughout the city. A number of town planning Schemes are also discussed, by the author.
