Publisher: New Delhi Burda Media India Private Limited 2019Edition: Vol.36(2), Feb.Description: 32-36p.Subject(s): URBAN PLANNING AND DESIGN (AR-UPD)Online resources: Click here In: Architecture+DesignSummary: The residence is an example of contemporary architecture by the architects. The major building materials being laterite stone and wood, this attractive four bedroom house is set in the heart of the city of Calicut. Located on 7.14 cents of land in Nadakkavu, this residence champions a contemporary architectural flair, maintaining a sense of formal composition. This house is an exemplary showcase of geometric grace. The front façade has been designed with transparent glass and a set of clean lines that assure the warmth of solid wood, which brings forth simplicity in use. The house has a contemporary feel with the encompassing landscape blending seamlessly into the interiors as one strolls from outside to inside, via the small pebble court, provided at the entrance. Interior spaces flow together gracefully, throwing insufficient natural light without even the slightest compromise in one’s privacy. Elegantly designed in a cubistic approach, maintaining a colour scheme of brown, white and grey, the house has good shading devices, serving the purpose of regulating the amount of sunlight entering the interiors during daylight hours, maintaining the lumen levels between dark and unseasonably bright. An interesting pebble court separates the living room from the dining area, and serves as a subtle element to break the monotony of direct visual connectivity.
