Publisher: Pune NICMAR 2021Edition: Vol. XXXVI Issue 01.Description: 47-56p.Subject(s): Construction Engineering and Management (CEM)Summary: In developed countries, there is a large-scale mechanization in construction industry. The administration should focus on optimum use of resources such as men, machinery, and materials. Safety in construction industry is very important, since the rate of accidents is very high because of the dynamic nature of work. Over the years, hundreds of construction workers have died due to construction accidents. Many of these deaths could have been prevented, if the workers are better skilled on the hazards that they may face on the job-sites. Consuming drugs and alcoholism constitute a major group of accidents. In addition, accidents occur due to long hours of work, unhealthy and unsafe work conditions. As a result, many health problems occur along with fatalities. Suitable preventive measures are to be adapted to prevent the accidents in the project. Further, workers are to be educated by giving suitable training to reduce the accidents by conducting a number of meetings to minimize the accidents and suitable recommendations are to be made for effective safety programme. Thus, there is a need to develop a methodology to reduce accidents in construction Industry. This paper uses Case Based Reasoning (CBR) approach to forecast and to reduce the accidents in construction sector by providing suitable safety measures.
