An efficient, metal-free protocol for amidation of aryl diazonium salts with nitriles has been developed utilizing visible light as an inexpensive, safer and sustainable energy source and eosin Y as an organophotoredox catalyst. The reaction follows a free radical pathway and offers an environmentally sustainable approach to a variety of amides in a simple one-pot procedure at room temperature.
