Modelling and Analysis of an H22 Engine Flywheel

By: Gupta, Mridul.
Publisher: Ghaziabad HBRP Publication 2021Edition: Vol.4(1), Jan-Apr.Description: 17-23p.Subject(s): Mechanical EngineeringOnline resources: Click here In: Advancement in mechanical engineering and technologySummary: flywheel can be defined as a device which stores energy in the form of Kinetic Energy. The primary function of Flywheel is to handle the torque fluctuation by smoothening out the variations in speed. A flywheel is also used to maintain the energy at a constant value that is required by providing energy when it decreases and storing energy when it increases. There are many causes which can lead to failure of a flywheel, one of them is the normal and the total stresses developed due to rotational velocity in a flywheel. Hence, this work evaluates the Normal and the Total Stresses along with Total Deformation developed in an H22 which was Honda’s larger high performance engine’s flywheel due to rotational velocity for two different materials, i.e., Grey Cast Iron and 6061 Aluminium Alloy. After the FEA, the better of the two materials is selected. The modelling software used in SOLIDWORKS and the software used for FEA of the Flywheel is ANSYS.
