Intrinsic dynamics between character, design and structure of settlements impacts the
‘worth’ of a society as well as the identity and sustainability of a ‘neighborhood-hab-
itat’. Hence, it become important to explore possibilities of interventions at ‘spatial’
and ‘policy’ levels, and ‘sustainable’ and ‘people centred’ development as against an
‘economy-centred’ or ‘people-defiant development’. It thus, becomes inevitable to un-
derstand and review at ‘neighborhood’ level planning approaches in ‘existing settle-
ments’ through ‘neighborhood regeneration’ approaches, which is the primary aim of
this paper. To do this the paper analyzed scholarly literature on economically, envi-
ronmentally and socially sustainable, ‘neighborhood level’ planning and development
approaches at a global scale. It is also endeavored to explore possibilities of interven-
tions that may aid in a ‘society centred’ development, aimed at nourishing an ethically
sensitized society for the generations to come.
