Publisher: Mumbai Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Science 2021Edition: Vol.53(2), Feb.Description: 9-10p.Subject(s): PHARMACEUTICSOnline resources: Click here In: Pharma timesSummary: Nanotoxicology is the study of nanoparticles which exhibit cytotoxic behavior in various target organs of the body. It involves the study of minute particles which are smaller than the thinnest strand of hair and their application in biological systems. In this review article, we will be discussing various nanoparticles that cause toxicities in various organs, mechanisms to reduce their toxicities and improving the efficacy of these therapeutic drugs. Firstly, nanoscience has evolved in such a way that it has benefited humans from the earliest drug discovered, Doxil to the recently approved Onivyde. These drugs have proved to be advantageous as well as cytotoxic to the human body. The various methods of reducing their toxicities include improving accumulation of drugs in the target site and other several mechanisms as well. The methods of improving their therapeutic efficacy are also discussed. A concise note on nanoparticles is presented in this review article.
