In 1947, we had 44 engineering colleges in our country with an annual intake of 3200 [1]. At present there are about 3500 engineering colleges with sanctioned intake of 14,85,894 (roughly 15 lac) [2]. The number of colleges and the intake will continue to increase in future as well, may be at a lower pace. This sudden expansion has given our country a status of third largest technical manpower reserve. But at the same time it has put lot of pressure on the quality of technical education....
