Heavy metal toxicity elicits a potential worldwide threat to the environment and humans. Cadmium, lead, arsenic and mercury are the non-essential toxic heavy metals most frequently involved in environmental and health hazards. conventional therapy i.e., chelating agents is not suitable for subchronic and chronic heavy metal toxicities. Scientific literature reveals the chlorella, a photosynthetic unicellular green microalgae obviates experimentally induced heavy metal toxicity. The present work attempts to review such studies against cadmium, lead and arsenic, cadmium and lead toxicities.
