This text presents a comprehensive treatment of the operation, performance, applications, and limitations of both the digital and analog instruments normally encountered in an electronics laboratory. It also discusses in detail the techniques and methods used for measuring resistance, inductance, capacitance, inductor Q factor, and capacitor D factor. Beginning with an explanation of SI units, the text treats measurement errors, and then progress through electromechanical instruments and analog electronic instruments. Because digital instruments are rapidly replacing analog instruments, the coverage of digital instruments is greatly expanded in the second edition of this book. The operation of digital voltmeters and frequency meters, digital oscilloscopes and signal generators is comprehensively covered. Other specialized instruments discussed are waveform analyzers and graphic recording instruments. Instrument calibration is also explained in a separate chapter.
