Express highways are built for traversing considerable uninterrupted longitudinal distances. Expressways interfere with a variety of spatial, environmental conditions and affect the living environment, both socially and biophysically along their trajectories. Their construction creates decisive effect on the landscape, hydrology, wild life habitats, economy and community. This paper critically examines the issues faced with reference to linear infrastructural development along Mumbai Pune Expressway. The analysis is aimed to highlight the issues and concerns in terms of the impact on spatial, socio-economic and environmental development.
