The idea of gypsum board was born in the 17th century as a covering for combustible wood that does not burn. Gypsum boards have very little strength; they give in to mild impacts. For a building material, strength is a prime feature that cannot be compromised. Also, gypsum boards cannot withstand moisture. It’s good for dry wall construction, but will deteriorate with exposure to elevated levels of moisture for extended periods.
