<br/><br/> Over a period of 20 years, the sector of nutraceuticals<br/>and functional foods has emerged at the convergence of the<br/>pharmaceutical and food industries (Childs et al. 2000). The<br/>rising rates of obesity and diabetes, rising eye-health concerns,<br/>increase in cardiovascular disease incidence, has transformed the<br/>consumption patterns in developing markets. With a rising shift<br/>from- treatment to preventive medicine, clinicians and patients<br/>are inspired to think differently about health and disease, thereby<br/>creating an impetus for nutraceutical innovations.
