Pharmapreneur: entrepreneurial skills and its need in pharmacy curriculum

Objective: To determine the entrepreneurial skills and identify the need for entrepreneurism within the academic curriculum to produce pharmapreneurs. Methods: A short term entrepreneurial training was provided to 120 students, studying in the final year of pharmacy diploma and undergraduate program. A pre and post-training survey were conducted to identify the change in entrepreneurial skills of the participants. Results: Based on the short term training and the findings from the survey conducted, the following framework for pharmacy entrepreneurs was projected and the change in the ability to recognize, generate and track new opportunities; successful implementation of creative ideas into practice; willingness to take risks; fulfilling unmet goals; value creation through innovation; response to change; existing knowledge, skills and resources were identified. Conclusion: Integrating entrepreneurship as an elective subject in final year, pharmacy diploma and undergraduate program curriculum to help pharmapreneurs in enhancing their confidence in entrepreneurial principles and skills.
