Institutes for professional education have quantitatively increased considerably during the last tow decades. Our main focus is engineering colleges. In 1947, we had 44 engineering colleges in our country with an annual intake of 3200 [1]. At present there are about 3500 engineering colleges with sanctioned intake of 14,85,894 (roughly 15 lac) [2]. The number of colleges and the intake will continue to increase in future as well, may be at a lower pace. This sudden expansion has given our country a status of third largest technical manpower reserve. But at the same time it has put lot of pressure on the quality of technical education....
