The myriad features fashioned out of bare rocks during India’s long odyssey have fueled the imagination of humans for centuries, which has assembled a historical record of a planet and trace events that occurred long before humans roamed our planet. India, therefore, is abundant in geological diversity, yet the sense of heritage that these magnificent creations instil is bereft of a spotlight. Geo sites have immense potential in educating the masses about earth processes, signatures of past climatic changes and catastrophic events that occurred in the past. It can help understand sustainable environmental management within a developmental framework. Integrated with India’s cultural ecosystems, geo sites would help reconnect with the dynamic past. Therefore, this dissertation focuses on the Kachchh district of Gujarat, known as a natural geological museum by earth scientists, which is one of the best well-exposed on land records of Cenozoic life and climatic records in India.
