520 | _aArchitecture is often perceived as a technical vocation that deals merely with the construction of the built environment. Many a time, we forget the humane intention that drives it into existence, populates it, customizes it and makes it palatable. The aim of this research paper is to study facades as a human expression and to explore how this is seen in the residences of suburban Bengaluru, India. For this study, photographic documentation and a survey was conducted with 15 residents (non-architects) and 15 architects, that focused on their perception about the various elements of facades such as murals, railings and colour themes. The findings were then used to analyze the gap between the architect’s intentions and user perception of façades, thus helping us understand the thought process of both. The paper concludes with a commentary on attempts that could be made to sensitize the architectural fraternity and user group towards the existing built environment. | ||
