Time overrun in Indian construction projects and mitigation possibilities - Vol.89(9), Sep - Mumbai Arihant Publications 2024 - 13-17p.

Construction delays are a common occurrence in
projects. When they arise, they need to be evaluated
quickly and managed efficiently. When any degree
of complexity is introduced to the mix it can become
particularly difficult for project staff, who are
overworked while dealing with site issues and other
project pressures, who may be untrained in forensic
analysis or programming skills. This often manifests
itself as a poor strike rate in achieving extensions
of time entitlements by contractors or, when the
employer’s team lacks these skills and awareness,
a record of granting excessive extensions of time to
contractors. Through this paper, it is observed that
nowadays client-related issues along with improper
planning in most projects are the principal reasons
affecting time overrun in the scheduling of any
construction project. Time overrun in construction
scheduling affects both the cost and time. If the
schedule of the project is delayed then automatically
the project duration increases. If the project duration
increases, the overall cost of the project increases
and therefore the productivity of the project gets
reduced.
