| Summary, etc. | proliferation of mobile devices and the emergence of wireless navigation services have generated a huge consumer demand for location based services in urban and indoor environments. The major concern in receiving GPS signals is having poor signal strength which causes an inaccurate position of the user due to interference and noise. Many de-noising techniques have been proposed to combat the noise and interference which deal with preprocessing and post processing techniques. In this work, Hotelling transform (HT) based pre-correlation combined differential detection (DFC) has been implemented in GPS signal acquisition to mitigate the wideband noise/interference. The fact due to the use of this transform in weak GPS signal, since it has stochastic nature of the basis function to provide better separation of noise from the signal. By applying HT, the weak signal can be filtered out by keeping only the signal of interest, non-stochastic part, and neglecting the rest which is commonly known as background noise. Initially, an extreme noisy sinusoidal and BPSK modulated signals are tested with SNR of –23 dB, after applying HT, an excellent improvement of 23 dB gain proved the signal enhancement capability compared to other methods. This paved the way of testing HT in GPS acquisition for weak signal of –160 dBm. The Monte Carlo simulation results confirmed the higher probability of detection with longer duration differential detection post-correlation method. |
