| Summary, etc. | Longing for sustainable urbanization is naturally a laudable goal. Currently, Goal-11<br/>and Goal-6 of the SDGs are designed to fulfil this aspiration. However, longing is not<br/>a sufficient condition for the achievement sustainable urbanization. Longing is like an<br/>ideal, which remains unfilled without concerted efforts, and is different from actual<br/>achievements. Longing is like compassion, which does show caring attitude of a person<br/>to assuage the suffering of the other person or group but does not involve appropriate<br/>actions to actually alleviate the suffering. In contrast to compassion, kindness involves<br/>actions undertaken to alleviate the suffering. Compassion and kindness, both are<br/>foundational to the ethics of care. This paper proposes that city planning should move<br/>from the ethics of justice to the ethics of care because ‘the ethics of care’ directly<br/>alleviates the suffering and vulnerabilities caused by unsustainable urbanization of the<br/>interconnected world. |
