Summary, etc. Pedagogy at the Bombay School of Art found its<br/>momentum with John Griffith, former Painting Master,<br/>taking over as the Head of the School. From 1880 to<br/>1895, Griffith promoted the documentation and<br/>understanding of the Local. His grand project (that he<br/>led from the front), the decade-long exercise to<br/>document the murals of the Western Indian cave temples<br/>of Ajanta, would form the template on which much of<br/>later the learning would happen after. In a school of art<br/>where painting, sculpture and architecture were all part of<br/>a simultaneous process, documentation and drawing<br/>became the cornerstones.
