Summary, etc. Modern temples temper continuities from the past with technological and design innovations. An important change from the past is that anyone can now legally enter a temple. Pilgrimage to holy sites has been aided by the ease of transportation, but a new kind of temple, created in modern Banaras, called the Panchakroshi, enables darshan of many sacred sites so that the devotee need not travel far and wide. Temples still use vastu-vidya, learnt at times in a traditional manner, inherited from their forebears and also acquired from modern books. In the final essay we will see that divine revelations (and the politics that surround them) continue well into our times: Gods still manifest spontaneously from nature, svayambhu, and need a house or temple.
