Centralized Versus Decentralized Wastewater Treatment And Reuse :A Feasibility Study For NITTTR Campus, Chandigarh

By: Contributor(s): Publication details: Pune NICMAR 2019Edition: Vol.43(3), Jul-SepDescription: 49-59pSubject(s): Online resources: In: NICMAR Journal of construction managementSummary: n recent times we have witnessed the emergence ofa water availability crisis due to scarcity and pollution ofwater resources. One ofthe major causes ofwater pollution is the widening gap between wastewater generation and treatment which has necessitated a paradigm shift from centralized to decentralized wastewater treatment and onsite reuse. The manuscript attempts to answer the question whether decentralization can be termed as an effective solution to deal with the limitations ofcentralized wastewater treatment. The scope ofdecentralization has been explored by means ofa feasibility study ofdecentralized wastewater treatment and onsite reuse in NITTTR campus, Chandigarh. The feasibility study takes into consideration the guidelines, appropriate technology and potential reuse options associated with the adoption ofdecentralized wastewater management. The purpose ofthe feasibility study is to determine the saving in freshwater use that can result from adoption ofdecentralized waste water management and onsite reuse
