Adaptive sampling & hierarchical sensing in wireless sensor networks for energy management

By: Contributor(s): Publication details: New Delhi Academic Research Journals (India) 2023Edition: Vol.11(1), Jan-JunDescription: 37-44pSubject(s): In: Indian journal of electrical power & energy systemsSummary: Energy management schemes aimed at minimizing the radio activity might be insufficient to fully address the energy savings issue an need to be complemented with (or replaced by) techniques for energy-efficient management at the sensor level. Intuitively, these techniques operate to reduce the number of data acquisitions (i.e., data samples) rather than the number of transmitted messages. In this paper we classify and review the main approaches proposed for energy management at the sensor level. To complement the approach the interested reader can refer to, where strategies for reducing the power consumption acting at the unit, cluster and network levels. e.g., by considering data compression and aggregation, predictive monitoring, topology management and adaptive duty cycle to cite the few.
