TI - WATER STORAGE IN RESERVOIRS AND AQUIFERS: RECHARGING Ground Water PY - 2019/// CY - Roorkee PB - Indian Water Resources Society KW - Civil Engineering N2 - Average per capita water availability in India as on 2011 is only 1543 cu.m. which is far China (5,000). Principal source of India’s water resources is monsoon rainfall which varies from place to place, year to year only 3 to 4 months in a year. While some parts of our country are deva in water storage and transfer of water from surplus to scarce basins. Storage of flood water in surface reservoirs and underg is necessary for fighting recurring floods and droughts in India. Excess flood waters should be transferred to drought prone areas by interlinking rivers. Re-use, recycling and recharging of waste and sewage water after proper treatment will be highly beneficial not only in water conservation but also in prevention of river and ground water pollution. Artificial recharge of ground water will be beneficial both for water conservation and sustainability of ground water supply to meet increasing demand for domestic and agricultural use, esp rural and semi- urban areas. All these issues have been discussed in the paper at length UR - http://iwrs.org.in/39-3/ ER -
