There are conflicts among spatial planning and sustainability due to chronic peripheral development, increasing pollution, transport, energy, and water consumption. It needs re-looking at the repertoire and processes of urban development which should shift from fossil fuel era to the circular concepts of urban planning, renewal, recycling and conservation of natural resources.
