The plant is well known to us since ancient times. The plant is traditionally used to treat several conditions such as stomach disorders, diarrhea skin diseases, male contraceptives, and home remedies for colds. Phytochemically, the plants have alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, starch, quinones, etc. Various medicine properties attributed to the plant and parts which include antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-hypertensive, anti-amoebic, anti-malarial, wound healing, anti-fertility, hepatoprotective, histaminergic, diuretic, immuno-modulatory, and anti-ulcer.
